Different rules under WASPA

Post  von K. on Wed Aug 14, 2013 12:48 am

Hi Vincent, what was WASPA's view on playing with different rules?

I'm just thinking of our beloved finnish rules, and playing a tournament (why not more) under WASPA banner.

Hey, I don't really know how different the finnish rules are but... for sure, they deserve respect as I know they have been used for many years over there.

I'm sure if tournaments with the Finnish rules have to take part, it would be very easy to include them in the WASPA circuit.

This means that:
- "regional tournaments" (played with FISTF rules) give 100% of the scheduled points
- 50% of the scheduled points are awarded for "promotional tournaments" (played with FISTF rules but not the top players), tournaments with advanced rules, ETF rules, Finnish rules.

I'm looking forward to hear back from you!

In fact they have been used since the 70's, and have evolved in small steps since then. They are a product of internetless time, preipheral country and a translation of the rules that left a lot to interpretation.

In reality, I think the finnish rules are in many ways close to old subbuteo rules.

The main things are that polish is not allowed, pro bases (or other FISTF game bases) are not allowed, smallest original subbuteo ball, wait for every defensive flick, play to a moving ball only allowed in shooting area when shooting for goal, and a team can have even 10 different type of figures in the fiels at the same time (for example Walker, Scarecrow, LW, lw with hw base, hw with lw base etc.). In the best quality leagues we also use the crouching keeper as the free standing keeper.

I've been thinking a long time that we should make a video of it to show people outside Finland what it's about. Just haven't done it for some reason.

The points are not the thing that interests me the most (well, in WASPA they usually are not). My interest is more about promoting the game (I see TF as one game that can be played with many types of rules), and if some foreign player would find our tournament or us with the help of the WASPA banner, it would be great. It would be stupid if some WASPA player is in Finland when we play a tournament, and doesn't know there is something going on nearby. For the same reason I'll try to get our organisers to make their fistf rules tournaments (finnish ranking) also WASPA tournaments.

So, whether or not the points would be counted in the WASPA ranking, it would be good to play a tournament under WASPA name.

For sure points are not a priority. A sI told many times, the WASPA ranking ha smore value about statistics, not the ranking itself.

I think this is a very good idea, one of the best from Von K. The Finnish rules are vital in Finland, particularly in Helsinki and Porvoo and if they got an international recognition by WASPA, it would be great.

We might just need a translation of rules to english, a summary at least.
