Bruno Biasini of the Eastern Ottowa Major Subbuteo League devised a set of football simulation rules which appear quite workable and are based on the usage of real formations in order to play a more realistic game. The EOMSL site is here:

http://home.cogeco.ca/~romanada/Eomsl/Eomsl_main.htm

And the Biasini Rules are here at this link:

http://home.cogeco.ca/~romanada/FSR/football_simulation_rules.htm

I've observed that many of the clubs play a game which incorporates an 8-man wall formation across the shooting line, which invariably forces all attacks to go toward the flanks. This seems to limit strategic options and makes for rather limited play. By contrast, the Worcester River Plate Severn TFC, at least in its early days, played fast, dynamic, open-field contests by sticking to actual field formations instead of the artificial defensive wall and it seems one thing you want from a game is flow.

Perhaps also an exploration of the solutions devised for other table footy games, such as the Gran Canaria code of futbol chapas, might lead to some innovation. Just a thought, anyway.

BTW, here's a YouTube link to Mr. Biasini's channel and a series of solo match videos demonstrating his system. He is playing the solo option to his rules, which prohibits defensive blocking flicks and uses a piece of foam packing material for the goalkeeper but you can observe frequent possession changes in action and successful goal tending as well as scoring:

Hello, I voted for the rules oldsubbuteo, with this vote, however, does not mean the rules of the community that is located around the site oldsubbuteo.it, but rediscover (thanks to WASPA) the rules of the European Tablefootball Federation and take it to the next level. Maybe updating on some controversial points.

In Italy I took the task of translating the ETF ruleset and update it. Because I believe and hope that we can live together the category WASPA-ETF and WASPA-tablefootball (fisft style) obviously not be compared to any other organization or circuit, but always friendly with other players and game styles!

Cheers

I hope and my wish is to see WASPA under the roof of FISTF with all kinds of tournaments inclusive all kinds of SUBBUTEO rules. We all are table football SUBBUTEO style no matter what. Let´s create a new spirit. All together without prejudices or weisenheimers.

I believe Vincent Coppenolle is at this moment the right person to combine the different wishes of all Subbuteoplayers together with Luís Horta as his partner as coming FISTF President. Both can bring a good future for our beloved Sportsgame SUBBUTEO. Let´s trust in them and their crew.

-> a tournament with ETF rules attracted 10 players this week-end in Italy.
